This page is an overview of the audio plug-in formats supported by Audacity. Audacity has cross-platform support for LADSPA, LV2, Nyquist and Vamp plug-ins, and platform-specific support for VST and Audio Unit plug-ins.

Types of plug-in

This plug-in allows Audacity 1.2.4 and higher to support VST plug-ins. Just put it in Audacity's 'Plug-ins' folder. For more information on VST plug-ins, see Audacity's Plug-ins page. To use with Audacity: just copy vst-bridge.so or vst-bridge.dll to the Plug-ins folder inside of your Audacity folder. The Mac version is a universal binary. On Mac, the easiest folder to put the plug-in's VST file in is /Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins. Then use Effect Add / Remove Plug-ins. Audacity can use the following types of plug-in effects:

VST (Virtual Studio Technology): Audacity supports almost all VST effect plug-ins on Windows, Mac and Linux including 'shell' VST's that host multiple VST effects. LV2 is a more advanced evolution of the LADSPA plug-in architecture which was originally developed on Linux. Download Vola Vst (Windows) Download Vola Jsfx (Windows and Mac) 5.) g200kg – KeroVee. This is a pitch correction VST plugin tool and has strengthened to support natural pitch correction. This tool is handy and can perform different and various types of voice effects, for example, a conversion of the male voice to a female voice and vice versa.

How do you add plug-ins to Audacity?

On Windows and Mac, you can put LADSPA, Nyquist and VST plug-ins in the Audacity 'Plug-Ins' folder.

• On Windows, the Audacity 'Plug-Ins' folder is usually at C:Program FilesAudacityPlug-Ins (or C:Program Files (x86)AudacityPlug-Ins on 64-bit computers)
• On Mac, the Audacity plug-ins folder is usually at ~/Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins

Limitations

• Audacity cannot yet apply effects to audio while it is playing or recording.
• Real-time effects: Not all effects in Audacity can preview an effect while changing the parameters of the effect.
• VST instrument (VSTi) plug-ins that generate sound are not supported. 64-bit VST plug-ins are not supported, nor are VST 3 plug-ins.
